Art INSIDE the Box

A Curated Exhibit

Brother artists and Sister makers: Are you tired of being told that artists should always “think outside the box”? Then join us in celebrating art that must be made INSIDE a box. A cereal box, shipping container, milk carton, a box of tissues, a cigar or shoe box: all are perfect homes for your inside-the-box inspirations. So are containers of any size or shape or material, as long as the work is created inside (not on the outside) of the container. Works in any medium including video and digital media are welcome. A selection of boxes for your use can be picked up at Belmar Arts during regular gallery hours in the two months before the exhibit.

Don’t like being told how to make your art? As the famous outside-the-box filmmaker Orson Welles (supposedly) said,

“The enemy of art is the absence of limitations.”

2018 Students of the International Center of Photography

The Belmar Arts Center of Belmar, New Jersey, is pleased to be hosting an invitational photography exhibit featuring students from the 2018 graduating class of the International Center of Photography’s year-long certificate programs. ICP students from the programs in Creative Practices, Documentary Practice and Visual Journalism, and New Media Narratives will be exhibiting their final projects at BAC from September 12 to October 12. Curated by ICP graduate and BAC member Drew Leventhal, the works demonstrate the latest issues and techniques in photography and will introduce the  Monmouth County arts community to the exciting works being created by young photographers from across the globe. After viewing the works during at the ICP graduation exhibit, “Signal Crossings,” BAC Director of Exhibits Louise Krasniewicz commented, “These exciting multi-media works will provide our arts community with a different view of the photographic medium, with wonderful examples of storytelling and close observation. The works are caring and focused, and remind us to pay attention to the fascinating world around us.”
